QUARTZSITE II

Since we decided to stay for a while, we went to the La Posa West kiosk and paid. For $40, you can camp in the LTVA for up to two weeks. Then you move or pay another $40 for two more weeks.

We always have a good time with our Lazy Daze friends and this time was no exception. Roger's place is the center of activities. He fields lots of phone calls coordinating everything. He likes to cook and made us some of his specialties. There are recipes on his blog  http://rogersramblings41.blogspot.com

Linda can't live without Amazon but they will make no effort to ship to General Delivery. It worked for us in 2012 at Big Bend, but failed in Albuquerque. So the group told us to use a local mail service, Quiet Times. We were right behind Linda L in line for our Amazon orders.

Several friends were using solar ovens in Albuquerque. Beth had hers set up here and made John a cake one day. It was delicious. Carole asked her how long it took to cook in a solar oven, 4-5 hours? Beth gently pointed out that it was no longer than any other oven:   350° is 350°.

Since Nikki and her daughter like beading, we stopped at a bead store sign. The front had lots of expensive jewelry (all half-off, of course) but also a fabulous private gem collection in wall cases along one side. The clerks wore some of their creations.

Driving around town, we got a sense of the variety of enterprises.

Scared Wood?

The bakery was a popular place so we found it and bought a loaf of white bread and some cookies. The bread was good but the ginger snaps didn't taste like ginger and were hard enough to break a tooth. Desert dehydration, perhaps?

One of the best things about being here was having the time to catch up on things.

John worked hard to find a wiring problem for us

And time to just hang out.

  2. Oh goody…I can finally keep track of you again, especially since we missed you at Live Oak! And it's really wonderful that you post pix of familiar faces, especially Bev's! Gentle hugs coming your way Carole -- coulda been worse, I guess (if you had gotten *two* black eyes!!!!)
