Visitor Center/Rest Area at South Carolina border. So many snowbirds are now 'migrating' back North that they fill up the rest areas. Some car drivers have learned they can go park in the truck parking more easily. Linda just wanted to kill them.

South Carolina school buses. The state operates the school buses for all public schools. We thought that was unusual so we did some research. In school year 2011 the fleet of 5630 buses traveled nearly 81 million miles to transport 647,000 students daily.

This was such a good idea! We thought it would be fun to see a place that you recommended so highly. It was a wonderful stop.

Linda was almost in tears at having real Southern cooking. Cornbread, okra gumbo, collards and pulled pork. She also stole Carole's bun and put the pulled pork on it.

This was to be our last Publix Market. A chain primarily in Florida, we have grown to depend on it. They carry good food and go the extra step to insure it. One day we saw an employee opening clamshell strawberries and going through the berries, discarding the bad ones and refilling with good berries. In one store, when Linda asked to taste the strawberries, the produce man went to the back and returned with four washed strawberries, cut in half, on a tray with a paper towel under them. Publix consistently ranks in the top three supermarkets in the U.S. and one of the best companies to work for. We can see why.

Publix carries a wide variety of everything. Those are aloe leaves on the right.
