It should already be apparent that we liked Whitehorse. We stayed nine days. Merrily understands!
To learn more about local history, we took the Yukon Historical Association walking tour along with Patti and, of course Wojie.
Our leader was a very talented young woman named Ursula. We were impressed by the beautiful trees with white blossoms. One was on the grounds of the city building on our route and had an interesting story. It was about another woman who climbed the Chilkoot!
We saw the real Sam McGee's house. She showed us the only log skyscraper in existence. It's now in use as a condo
The first resident priest arrived in Whitehorse in 1900. The town immediately built him a church and rectory. The Old Log Church was once the Anglican cathedral for the diocese -- the only wooden cathedral in the world -- today it is a museum. We admired its painstaking construction.

We continue to run into references to Jack London.
Near the end of our walk, who should we see but Stephan again. He had reached his goal and was packing his bike preparatory to flying out of Whitehorse to Australia. Bet we don't run into him again!
Another impressive conservation program is the use of mobile irrigation for city landscaping.
Before we left the last city we would be in for a while, we took care of a bad tire on the toad. Even though we had put ten new tires on camper and tow car, one had developed a bulging sidewall. This Canadian tire chain replaced it under warranty. Whew!
We kept seeing these signs around town. Finally, curiosity got the best of us. Carole went in to the hotel where this was displayed and asked what it meant. Businesses took this approach to respond to the opposition to noisy motorcycles by some of the town. Whitehorse really does welcome visitors wholeheartedly.

gain, it is like being there--plus all those new ideas for my own trip. And when i sw the "skyscraper" it is,indeed, a whole new culture!! Enjoy the cool-it would be SO welcome in N. Kansas!
