PRINCE RUPERT III

And to satisfy all those who asked how much we’d be  spending on gas…

As we drove around the back streets of Prince Rupert we liked this mural.  It appears to be a First Nations story.

On Thursday, a major cruise ship, the Norwegian Star, was in port.  It holds 2500 passengers and carries 1000 crew. The city has actively courted the Alaskan cruise ships and their visits have changed the economy of the town.  This area was very dependent on lumber and fishing and canning.  When those industries left, the economy went downhill. Unfortunately, the people on this particular ship did not spend much money. We spoke with some of the passengers and they told us they were off the ship until 9:30 PM.  But most people did not seem to be helping the economy.

One passenger told us they had a great time in Alaska, but the mosquitoes were a nuisance and really BIG. We are considering stopping in Whitehorse and getting a transfusion so we have enough blood and can avoid anemia.

Really another culture.

There is another side to this community.

Delightful!
